Specialty Group Classes
Canine Good Citizen - CGC
The CGC class is part of our Graduate Level class options and is the next step after our High School. This is a six week course.
This class is for dogs that have their basic skills (acquired here or at another facility). You will be working on the AKC CGC TEST REQUIREMENTS; Sit, lie down, no pulling, heel, stay, come, walking nicely on a leash while in a group setting, behaving while owners go out of site, staying calm in the company of other dogs and crowds etc. After your last class week of this class, you will have the opportunity to take the Canine Good Citizen test and earn your certificate!
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN Title/ Certificate can assist with Renters insurance coverage, Homeowners insurance coverage, Landlord approval of dogs that may have previously declined pets, the Worcester, MA MUZZLE ordinance requirement (with this title no muzzle needed!) Excellent preparation for Therapy Dog requirements and much more.
Therapy Dog Class
Dogs are required to have SOLID BASIC TRAINING. All dogs should be well socialized and mentally stable, showing the ability to ENJOY the work expected from a Therapy Dog. This can be more than many dogs are comfortable with. Having the appropriate Therapy Dog temperament in your dog is important.
There are many options in the ‘Therapy Dog’ world. We believe that this class will prepare the handlers and the dog for most TD certification tests. Not only are we preparing your dog for the test, we are preparing YOU the handler, for the actual work.
WHAT DOES A THERAPY DOG DO?
Therapy dogs often participate in scheduled visitations at hospitals, nursing homes, support groups, assisted care facilities and more. For example, many libraries have created a ‘special time’ to assist children and or adults in a confidence boosting reading program. Therapy dogs fit right into these programs. Therapy Dogs bring a feeling of comfort to many…
We realize that this is not a class for all owners and is certainly considered a ‘specialty class’. We here at The Right Paw want to support the ‘need’ not only for our clients, but also for the facilities that benefit from the therapeutic animal visitations. We are proud to offer this class! If this class sounds like what YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR, we are ready to help you prepare for your THERAPEUTIC DOG CERTIFICATION.
Therapy Dog Class is a six-week course, with a time commitment of one hour per week. Week one is Handlers only please…

A group class intended to teach the handlers how to train their dogs to perform specific tricks upon request. Approximately 5 individual tricks will be worked on EACH week. The class will be six weeks long and 1 hour per week. Trick training is the perfect next step after you have achieved the CGC title (as the trick requirement is only 5 tricks for folks with a CGC title). Those folks taking Tricks class with out a CGC title will be expected to perform twice as many tricks on the test day, so this class is a great class for anyone! No previous training required, though having basic control over your dog IS. Your last week of class will allow for each team to take the 'test' to earn your new title.
Some tricks to expect; Walk a balance beam - Hold - Get into - Find it/Shell game - Crawl & much more!
Our instructors are certified through the American Kennel Club (AKC) to award this title and more such as the
Canine Good Citizen titles. The first TRICK TITLE is the Tricks Dog Novice. Trick training can earn you 3 separate titles:
Tricks Dog Novice (TKN)
Tricks Dog Intermediate (TKI)
Tricks Dog Advanced (TKA).
Each title coincides with the level of complexity of the tricks and the amount of tricks that the owner and dog are capable to perform. Titles are progressive.
