A fun and exciting team sport for dogs and their handlers! This class is for all dogs be it purebred, mixed breeds or dogs with disabilities, all are encouraged to participate. Dog and Handler 'teams' navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform. 'Teams' navigate the course at a brisk, continuous pace without direction from the judge. Handlers are permitted to talk, praise, encourage, or use any verbal means of encouragement towards there dogs. Multiple commands and/or signals using one or both arms and hands are allowed; loud or harsh commands or intimidating signals will be penalized.
There is five levels of competition in AKC Rally
Novice - this is the first level for those just getting started in competition. All exercises are performed with the dog on leash.
Intermediate - this is the second level which is comparable to the Advanced level except all exercises are performed on leash and there are no jumps at this level.
Advanced - this is the third level, which includes more difficult exercises throughout the course. All exercises are performed off-leash. There is a requirement of 12-17 stations.
Excellent - this is the fourth level of AKC Rally. There is a requirement of 15-20 stations. Difficulty increases.
Masters - this level is the highest level of the AKC Rally and is the most challenging. The signs are more challenging and there are no re-try's at this level. No hand clapping or leg patting allowed at this level. Much like formal obedience competition.
A 'team' earns a Rally title after successfully completing three course runs, with qualifying scores under two different judges. Titles can be earned at each Level and teams may also earn Championship titles, National Ranking Awards and a special Award of Excellence.
This is a great sport! It gives your dog mental stimulation and prepares for obedience competition
It's just something fun to do with your dog!
ALL AGES ARE CAPABLE of competing and training for RALLY-O
