BRAG from the K9 Nose Work® class at The Right Paw w/Laurie Merritt certified instructor
On 12/2/18 Chuck handled both Piper and Holly to the passage of their Odor Recognition Tests for Birch. This certification clears the way for Piper and Holly to compete for NW1 Titles in National Association of Canine Scent Work (nacsw.net).
CONGRATULATIONS to Chuck, Piper and Holly!
Background: Chuck Dillon came to the first NoseWork class at The Right Paw in Jan. 2017 with his chocolate Lab, Piper. It was clear from the beginning that Piper loved the sniffing game!
By the second round of classes Chuck could see that involvement in the NoseWork game could help his yellow Lab, Holly, to build her confidence.
Both Piper and Holly have attended NoseWork classes since Winter 2017. They have expanded their search and problem solving skills, Chuck has worked on his line handling and observational skills and the entire class has enjoyed watching Piper's and Holly's distinctly different search styles.
Refund policy: Refunds are given with a 24-hour notice of drop out prior to the first class. If you paid with a credit card there will be a $15.00 processing fee included in refund.
Nosework our foundation class and beyond...
This class is a six week course that runs for one and a half hours once per week. This class is limited to 6 owners in attendance ( less than the other class offerings here at The Right Paw so that you can get the instruction and practice time needed to achieve success) Check out the website for National Association of Canine Scent Work www.NACSW.NET This site is filled with information about this wonderful sport! More information than can be posted on just one page of our website. Take your time to educate yourself on this great activity!
K-9 Nosework requires 0 skills on the dog and/or the handlers part when starting. It is a sport that keeps the dogs 'working' and thinking. When they are working they are exercising not only their minds but also their bodies. Nosework is for the big and the small size dogs, along with every size in between. The work of a dogs nose is not affected by the size of the dog. Dogs that have struggled in an obedience class just may be the shinning star of Nosework!
supplies needed; stinky treats and lots of them!
A flat buckle collar or harness with a TOP ring vs. a side ring.
Six foot leash to start.
Open mind to learning new things!
Dogs are worked one at a time with no other dogs in the room. This is to set all dogs up for success with out the distractions of the other dogs. Please be prepared for this with crates or a safe place to contain your dog while awaiting their turn. Most owners crate with in the vehicle or leave the dogs in their vehicles loose while awaiting their turn. Owners can learn so from watching each others and their dogs 'working'.
All dogs are welcome (including 'reactive' dogs) because the class is set up for success!
Check the page for up and coming classes. Go to the Registration page. Registration forms can be filled out and sent to the Right Paw on line, along with the class fee of $195.00 and the option to send a copy of the dog's vaccinations.
